The Square-tailed bulbul, also known as the Hypsipetes ganeesa, is a passerine bird species found in the Western Ghats. It has a distinctive square-shaped tail and is generally grey or brown in colour, with white or yellow underparts. Square-tailed bulbuls are typically found in forested areas and are known for their loud and melodious songs, which they use to communicate with one another. They feed primarily on fruit and insects and are known to be particularly fond of figs. Despite being relatively common, habitat loss and fragmentation are threats to their populations in some areas, making conservation efforts important for their long-term survival.
