Dr. Sandeep Das is currently a SERB-National Post-Doctoral Fellow in University of Calicut, Kerala, India. He did his PhD on Amphibians of Eravikulam National Park from Kerala Forest Research Institute. He has a master’s in Zoology with Wildlife Biology as specialization. He started off with birds in 2006 and slowly moved to amphibians and reptiles and had been working on them in the Western Ghats since 2010. His primary interests are amphibian and reptilian taxonomy and biology. His team had described more than 20 new species including amphibians, lizards and snakes from the Western Ghats. He is also an EDGE Fellow and EDGE Hero awardee of the Zoological Society of London working towards the conservation of Endangered Mahabali Frog Nasikabatrachus sahyadrensis. Beyond his research endeavors, Dr. Das actively engages in conservation efforts. He serves as a trainer and committee member for the snake rescue and rehabilitation guidelines program initiated by the Kerala Forest Department. Furthermore, he collaborates with various committees and NGOs nationwide.
Outside academia, Dr. Das is an enthusiastic traveler and nature photographer, driven by a passion for documenting and raising awareness about lesser-known fauna, including snakes.
